Great blog, Bob! It’s interesting to hear the point of view of someone on the outside looking in. You nailed how our industry thinks; I just rarely consider how that thinking compares to other industrues, which you summarized nicely.

It was a pleasure having you, Hugo, and Hank with us.

[posted on behalf of Bill Kehoe]

Traci and Babu,

I suspect that you're both overlooking an important step described in the blog post.

Search for the sentence in the blog post that reads:

...the New Table Schema wizard also produces a default mapping to a new, local composite type whose attributes and types map one-to-one to the database column fields of the Table Schema. But...

The problem you're encountering is that the semantic type that the "New Table Schema" wizard produces is one which is local to the schema and even though it looks similar to the 'ContractExpense' type used in the Read File operator, it is, in fact, a different composite type and the dataflow analyzer requires that that the composite type on both sides of a dataflow link be the same composite type.

Read further in that same paragraph where it describes how to add a new schema mapping to the 'StagingExpense' table schema by double clicking on that 'StagingExpense' schema in the "Schemas" folder of the workspace explorer and choosing "Add->Shared Type" from the "Composite Type" section of the ribbon bar and selecting the "ContractExpense" shared composite type from a list of shared types presented in a popup dialog.

That creates a new Schema Mapping Set to map the database columns in the 'EXPENSE' table of the 'StagingExpense' table schema to the attributes of the 'ContractExpense' composite type (the name of that Mapping set will be 'Mapping1'). You then use your mouse to link the fields in the schema to their proper corresponding semantic attributes in the composite type, for example EXPENSE_DATE -> ExpenseBookDate (there's a screenshot of the mappings shown in the blog post). Once you've completed the mappings, you need to return to the Dataflow Editor and edit the properties of the Write Table operator so that the 'Type' property says 'ContractExpense' (not Local1) and the 'Mapping' property says 'Mapping1'.

With those changes, the composite type of the Read File operator will match the composite type of the Write Table operator (they both should say 'ContractExpense' in their 'Type' properties), the error message should disappear, and the green "Start" button on the ribbon bar should be active and you should be able to execute the flow.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

I too have same issue.
Error: The Semantic types of the connected operators and are incompatible.
Change the type of this operator by changing the schema type of the input or output operator that determines this operator’s type.
